A campa de Salazar

Salazar's remains lie in a modest grave in his home town of Santa Comba Dao, in central Portugal. An engraving on his tomb reads, "Here lies the man to whom Portugal owes the most. To the country he gave all, from the country he took nothing for himself".

"A recent television contest in Portugal has kicked off an intense debate there about the country’s past. The contest asked people to vote for the ‘greatest Portuguese of all time.’ The winner, Antonio de Oliveira Salazar, surprised many. Salazar was a dictator who ruled Portugal from 1931 to 1970. The country remained poor and isolated under his rule. Freedom of expression was severly limited. Nevertheless many Portuguese pine for the Salazar days."

Será que foi mesmo assim? É assim que nos vêm lá de fora?
